Over the past week, numerous rape and sexual harassment claims have come to light against Hollywood A-list producer Harvey Weinstein. This has caused the Obama family to go into panic mode, as Barack had his teenage daughter Malia intern for Weinstein, a close personal friend of his, last year as a thank you for the mogul’s donations to his campaign.
Now, Malia has found herself right in the center of the ensuing sex scandal, as Weinstein has broken his silence about her.
Daily Mail reported that though Weinstein is “heartbroken” over the loss of his friends in Hollywood, he is even more upset over losing political friends like the Obamas and the Clintons. In a bid to get them back, sources say that Weinstein is constantly saying that he was “always very well behaved around Malia” during her time working for him last year.
Barack found himself in hot water this week for waiting five full days before condemning Weinstein. When he finally did release a statement, he did not mention Malia’s internship with the Hollywood mogul at all.
“Michelle and I have been disgusted by the recent reports about Harvey Weinstein,” Obama said in his statement. “Any man who demeans and degrades women in such fashion needs to be condemned and held accountable, regardless of wealth or status.”
“We should celebrate the courage of women who have come forward to tell these painful stories,” the former president continued. “And we all need to build a culture – including by empowering our girls and teaching our boys decency and respect – so we can make such behavior less prevalent in the future.”
