Over the past month, hundreds of NFL players have been taking a knee during the national anthem to protest against President Donald Trump and against racial inequality. Fans have responded by turning off their televisions rather than watch our flag be disrespected in this way.
Independent Journal Review reported that now, the NFL has made things even worse for themselves by announcing that they will not be changing their policy that allows these protests over Veteran’s Day. The Facebook page Boycott The NFL, which has over 200,000 followers, created a video asking viewers to boycott on Veterans Day weekend. The video has already gotten over 10 million views and over 670,000 shares.
“We will be not be watching or listening to NFL games on November 12th in solidarity with veterans around the country, as football players have continued to disrespect the national anthem, the American flag, and everything our nation stands for,” one post on the page stated.
This comes after Freedom Daily reported that NBC has warned the NFL that after Papa John’s founder John Schnatter announced that they would begin removing NFL-related advertisements, other mega-sponsors are mulling whether to follow the pizza chain and pull future ads from the 2017 season. NBC-Universal executive Linda Yaccarino said at a round-table discussion that Papa John’s “wasn’t alone” in expressing their outrage over months of professional athletes “taking a knee” during the US national anthem.
“None of NBC-Universal’s NFL advertisers have pulled out of NBC’s Sunday Night Football or Thursday Night Football games. However, a ‘list of advertisers have made themselves very clear: if you continue covering the political coverage of the issue, we will not be part of the NFL,’” she said. “Because think about it: they have half the country that is cheering about that, and they have half the country that is emailing them, saying, don’t do that. So that’s a real thing.”
Anne Quigley of Bluffton, South Carolina wrote a letter to the IslandPacket in which she proposed a perfect idea in response to the National Football League disrespecting the nation and that’s to take “National” out of the name. Quigley suggested that they replace “National” with a word that perfectly describes what these players really are.
“I would submit that the players in the National Football League who do not want to stand for the national anthem should change the name of their organization to remove the word “national,” Quigley wrote. “Perhaps they could be the Disgruntled Football League?”
