It’s no secret that many people have been trying to take down President Donald Trump since before he even took office. However, disturbing new reports are coming in that his own Vice President Mike Pence was involved in plotting a coup to remove him from power.
Daily Mail reported that Pence plotted the coup after the release of the infamous Access Hollywood tape in which Trump boasted about grabbing women “by the p*ssy.” The Atlantic reported that after the release of the tape, “Pence made it clear to the Republican National Committee that he was ready to take Trump’s place as the party’s nominee.”
A former campaign aide admitted that Karen Pence, the wife of the vice president, “disgusted” by the tape.
“She finds him reprehensible—just totally vile,” the aide said of President Trump, adding that the Pences were appalled by the video. The Pence family is known for being incredibly religious.
The Atlantic claimed that after the tape was released, Pence called the Republican Party to take emergency steps to replace Trump, who had already accepted his party’s nomination at the convention. Days after the tape was released, former RNC chair Reince Priebus infamously urged Trump to drop out of the race, saying that if he did not, he would “go down with a worse election loss than Barry Goldwater’s.”
Trump refused to drop out and managed to dodge Pence’s alleged coup to win the election anyway.
“Regarding The Atlantic’s tired, false claim about the VP during the campaign — we denied this in the article and deny it again today. Didn’t happen,” Pence spokeswoman Alyssah Farah tweeted, adding a sleeping emoji.
