During last year’s presidential election, Hillary Clinton falsely tried to portray herself as a “warrior for women” who would always stand by victims of sexual assault. That’s why it came as bad news to her on Tuesday when the New York Times released a report detailing how Bill and Hillary Clinton may have played a key role in the coverup of disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein’s rape and sexual assault allegations.
Western Journalism reported that Clinton and Weinstein had a long friendship that involved them providing financial favors for each other. During the Monica Lewinsky scandal, Weinstein donated $10,000 to Bill as he faced impeachment and also acted as an informal adviser and fund-raiser during Hillary’s 2000 Senate campaign. He was even present in the hotel room when Hillary celebrated her senatorial victory.
This week, two prominent women in the entertainment industry said that they warned Clinton’s campaign team last year that Weinstein was a rapist.
“I just want you to let you know that Harvey’s a rapist and this is going to come out at some point,” said “Girls” actress Lena Dunham, adding that she had warned the Clinton campaign’s deputy communications director Kristina Schake in March 2016.
“I think it’s a really bad idea for him to host fund-raisers and be involved because it’s an open secret in Hollywood that he has a problem with sexual assault,” Dunham added.
She also said that she had warned Clinton spokeswoman Adrienne Elrod, who was involved in working with celebrities campaigns. Both Schake and Elrod deny that Dunham ever spoke with them about Weinstein’s behavior.
Magazine editor Tina Brown also claimed to have warned the Clinton campaign of Weinstein’s sexual misconduct in 2008, during Clinton’s first presidential run.
“I was hearing that Harvey’s sleaziness with women had escalated since I left ‘Talk’ in 2002 and she was unwise to be so closely associated with him,” Brown wrote in an email.
This comes after Linda Tripp, the woman who exposed Bill’s affair with Monica Lewinsky, spoke out to expose how Hillary silenced his victims of sexual assault.
“They are completely unscrupulous. There are no rules, no laws that apply to them,” Tripp said of the Clintons. She added that we “dodged a bullet” when Hillary lost to Donald Trump.
“I think the most hurtful thing for me to watch during the campaign was [that] she touted herself as a champion of women. She is a destroyer of women should they get in her way,” Tripp said.
Tripp said she is still haunted by the things she saw in the Clinton White House.
“What I saw for two years is nothing the American people could have fathomed. Most politicians speak with forked tongues but this was something quite different. There are no rules, no laws that apply to them,” Tripp said. “I think by nature Bill Clinton would turn the other cheek knowing as he does what his role was with these women. But Hillary’s role was that she said, ‘We’ll just have to destroy them,’ and she means it.”
